SSC Tuatara set a new world speed record for production cars. On a deserted road near Las Vegas, the hypercar accelerated to an incredible 532.93 km/h!However, the official record based on results from two runs in opposite directions is slightly lower – 508.73 km/h. But it’s still impressive, as no production car has yet reached 500 km/h.
Even the high-tech Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+ achieved 490.5 km/h. By the way, pilot Oliver Webb said that the Tuatara could have gone faster, but was hindered by a crosswind.
Recall that SSC Tuatara weighs only 1247 kg and is equipped with a powerful 5.9-liter twin-turbo V8 engine with 1750 hp. In addition, the car has well-developed aerodynamics.
Only one hundred of such coupes will be produced at a cost of $1.6 million.
