Porsche Introduces Updated 911 Cup and 911 GT3 R Racing Models
Porsche has presented two new racing versions of its legendary 911 series. The updated 911 Cup and 911 GT3 R have received a number of technical and aerodynamic improvements that make them even more competitive on the track.
The 911 Cup, based on the 992.2 platform, has been rid of daytime running lights — this reduces the cost of repairs after collisions. Engineers have also improved aerodynamics thanks to new ventilation openings on the wings and updated the rear wing. Under the hood is a 4.0-liter naturally aspirated engine with 512 hp, which has received components from the road version, including individual throttle valves.
Technical Updates and Driver Comfort
Key changes include a new six-speed gearbox with a four-disc clutch, an improved braking system with larger cooling channels, and an updated interior with a multifunctional steering wheel. Additional foam in the seats provides better driver protection, and the air conditioning system has three operating modes.
“We eliminated the central throttle valve, which allowed us to install an air restrictor — a requirement for participation in other motorsport championships,” explain Porsche.
911 GT3 R: More Power and Stability
The updated GT3 R has received a modified suspension, new ceramic wheel bearings, and improved aerodynamics. The rear ‘swan neck’ wing increases downforce, and the sealed underbody ensures stability at high speeds. The 4.2-liter engine develops up to 557 hp, but the final power is regulated according to competition rules.
Both models are already available for order, with the GT3 R including a number of optional packages in the base configuration. These updates show that Porsche continues to refine its racing cars, maintaining their competitiveness in serious competitions. The convenience for pilots is especially noteworthy — from automatic engine restart to simplified access to telemetry.
