BMW has officially presented the new, fifth-generation X5 crossover. The model features a completely refreshed design in the Neue Klasse style, a modern digital interior, and a record number of powertrains for the family. Buyers will be offered petrol, hybrid, fully electric, and in the future, hydrogen modifications. This is reported by BMW Group.
The new BMW X5 2027 received a completely new design and digital interior
The fifth-generation BMW X5 inherited the brand’s Neue Klasse styling, but did not simply become an enlarged copy of the new iX3. The crossover received a different front end with new Double X LED units that combine daytime running lights, turn indicators, and main lighting.
Instead of traditional door handles, compact metal elements integrated into the body pillars are used. Already in the base trim, 21-inch wheels are installed, while wheels up to 23 inches in diameter are available for an additional cost. Adaptive dampers are part of the standard equipment, while air suspension is offered as an option.
In the interior, a new BMW Panoramic iDrive multimedia system has appeared, featuring a central 17.9-inch display, a wide panoramic screen at the base of the windshield, and a 3D head-up display. At the buyer’s request, a separate 14.6-inch screen for the front passenger can be ordered. Also available are decorative finishes made of natural slate, glass controls, and a panoramic roof with an area of about 2.6 m².
BMW X5 2027 offers petrol, hybrid, electric, and hydrogen versions
The starting modification will be the X5 40 with a three-liter inline turbo engine and a 48-volt mild hybrid system. The unit’s power is 394 hp and 580 Nm of torque. Acceleration to 100 km/h takes approximately 5.1 seconds.
The plug-in hybrid X5 50e xDrive is equipped with the same six-cylinder engine combined with an electric motor. The total system power reaches 483 hp and 700 Nm. Thanks to the battery increased to 26.5 kWh, the electric range has increased to 71 km.
The main novelty is the first fully electric version, the iX5 60 xDrive. It is equipped with two electric motors with a total power of 570 hp and a battery with a capacity of 144 kWh. The estimated range is up to 700 km, and charging from 10 to 80% takes only 22 minutes thanks to the 800-volt architecture and support for power up to 460 kW. In 10 minutes, you can replenish the energy supply for approximately 274 km.
The first to hit the market in the fall of 2026 will be the petrol X5 40 xDrive. In early 2027, they will be joined by the rear-wheel drive X5 40, the plug-in hybrid 50e, and the electric iX5. Later, BMW will also introduce the M Performance modification with a V8 engine and the hydrogen-powered iX5 Hydrogen.
