The New Electric Cayenne: Porsche Enters a New Era

Porsche has officially unveiled the new Cayenne Electric. This is already the fourth generation of the model, and demand for it is expected to be just as frenzied as before. Even before the full-scale invasion—and especially now—the situation is one and the same: you walk into a dealership, see signs everywhere saying “Sold Out,” and the manager smiles and says: “You’ll have to wait a few months… if you’re lucky enough to find an available car.”

The new Cayenne Electric was built on the Volkswagen PPE platform and will be produced on the same assembly line as the electric Macan in Leipzig. At the same time, the third-generation gasoline Cayenne is being kept in the lineup for now—the lesson from the sales failure of the Macan after Porsche’s abrupt switch to “electric” has been learned for a long time.

The electric Cayenne will be offered in two versions. The base version delivers 408 hp and 834 Nm, while the Cayenne Turbo Electric is a real monster: 857 hp, with a temporary boost up to 1034 hp, and in Launch Control mode—even 1155 hp. Both modifications received two motors and all-wheel drive. There is one battery—113 kWh, the suspension is pneumatic, and among the options: an active rear differential, rear-axle steering, and powerful brakes with carbon-ceramic rotors.

Externally, the Cayenne Electric and the new Macan have no shared details—but it’s hard to tell them apart at first glance. The signature feature of the electric Cayenne is the spoiler above the rear window. The interior also has much in common, but in the Cayenne, the displays are larger, the materials are more expensive, and the atmosphere is more premium. And yes, the classic clock on top of the console has been kept—traditions, you know. Sales of the Cayenne Electric will start at the beginning of next year.
