Before the presentation of the second generation of Stelvio, the new Alfa Romeo is in preparation, and finally, we have had the opportunity to see the first prototype. Caught during testing in Europe, this tester gives us a glimpse into the future, announced for this year with a planned market release in 2026. The new Stelvio promises a complete relaunch with the option of choosing between fully electric and hybrid engines. The new generation Stelvio, again hidden in the usual camouflage from Alfa Romeo, was spotted in northern Sweden at the end of cold condition testing. These spy shots appeared just a few days after Alfa Romeo CEO Santo Ficili confirmed the Stilvio debut in 2025, before its release in 2026.
Despite the thick camouflage, the unmatched outline of the characteristic Scudetto grille is faintly visible, confirming that it is inseparably associated with Alfa Romeo. The front end seems to feature split LED headlights, with upper blocks reminiscent of …, offering a subtle nod to the brand’s family style. From the side, the new Stelvio exhibits a more athletic stance, with updated proportions that give it a sleeker, coupe-like SUV silhouette. The prototype also rides on three-blade alloy wheels and seems slightly longer than the current model, especially between the axles. The roofline smoothly descends to what appears to be an integrated rear spoiler, emphasizing a sporty flair.
The rear almost confirms that the new Stelvio will receive full-width LED taillights with a triangular shape. The new Stelvio will be the first car in Europe on the STLA Large platform from …, which already supports models like the Dodge Charger, Jeep Wagoneer S, and the upcoming Jeep Recon. This platform will become the foundation for more models among Stellantis brands in the future. Regarding Stelvio, Alfa Romeo engineers are likely aiming to retain the sportiness for which the brand is known, ensuring that this SUV does not forget its performance roots. As for what’s under the hood, it has been officially confirmed that the Italian SUV will offer a choice between fully electric and engines.
While we do not yet have all the specifics, former Alfa Romeo CEO Jean-Philippe Imparato previously hinted that the high-performance Stelvio Quadrifoglio could produce up to 986 hp (736 kW/1000 PS) in an electric version. There is also talk that Alfa Romeo might borrow a new inline-six turbocharged engine from the Dodge Charger for gasoline engine versions, though this has not been officially confirmed yet. The new model will also receive the STLA Brain electronic architecture, which will allow for over-the-air updates and more advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). Our spy photographers even caught a glimpse of the interior, which seems to have a significantly larger infotainment screen than its predecessor. We will learn more about the upcoming SUV as we approach its debut this year.
In 2026, a new generation of Giulia will follow the Alfa Romeo Stelvio. Similar to its predecessor, the new Giulia will share chassis, engines, and technologies with the Stelvio.
