The clock is ticking toward the unveiling of the second-generation Alfa Romeo Stelvio, expected later this year, and it couldn’t have come at a better time. The current model has long shown its age and needs a fresh update in design, technology, and the option for an electric powertrain.
Although Alfa Romeo has yet to release official images, we can already get a glimpse of the new crossover through patent documents. Now, independent artists are giving us an even better idea of what to expect from the exterior of the next-generation Stelvio.
The illustrations come from digital artists, mostly known for their strikingly accurate previsualizations of future production models. Their latest work is based on previously published spy photos and recent patent drawings, with a few creative color touches added.
A Familiar Face with Sharper Features
The new Italian crossover presents a noticeable evolution from its predecessor, yet the Scudetto grille and updated graphic elements ensure it still unmistakably belongs to Alfa Romeo. The split lighting units at the top feature thin daytime running lights and headlights carefully integrated into the triangular bumper vents. The revised grille also frees up enough space for a central license plate, borrowing a trick from the smaller model.
On the sides, the Stelvio looks even more refined. The elegant roofline, two-tone trim, large alloy wheels, and flush door handles bring the design closer to the coupe-crossover category without fully committing to a coupe. At the rear, the standout feature is the full-width LED taillight, which forms a triangular shape and partially extends into the tailgate, echoing the look of the front grille.
Different Approaches to the Same Project
Two artists approached the task slightly differently. Kelsonik updated his earlier renderings for Kolesa, refining the design with more precise details sourced from leaked patent documents. Theottle, in turn, left a few differences but accurately conveyed the proportions, basing his interpretation on the mechanically related platform of the Jeep Wagoneer S.
The next-generation Alfa Romeo Stelvio will use the STLA Large platform alongside the Recon and Dodge Charger, allowing it to be compatible with full electric and hybrid powertrains. This shift means Maserati will be the last brand to stick with the Giorgio platform, which first appeared with the now-discontinued Giulia and Stelvio models.
What About Performance?
Initial reports suggested the performance-oriented Stelvio Quadrifoglio would go full electric, but recent data indicates otherwise. This is likely good news for Alfa Romeo enthusiasts who appreciate a bit of mechanical drama under the hood. With a bit of luck, the new Stelvio will also inherit some of the excellent chassis tuning from the current model, which helped make it one of the most engaging crossovers to drive.
The official unveiling of the new Stelvio is expected within the next few months. It will take its place above the Junior and Tonale in Alfa Romeo’s expanding crossover lineup. As for the next Giulia, it seems to be planned for a 2026 debut, possibly trading its traditional sedan shape for a more crossover-like fastback style.
