The New Audi A7L Avant Could Become the Longest Estate in the Brand’s History

New Audi Model for the Chinese Market

The SAIC Audi joint venture continues to develop new models, and the next project will be the Audi A7L Avant. This estate is based on the new Audi A6 but is specifically designed for China. Its main feature will be an extended wheelbase, catering to the local buyers’ preference for spacious rear seats.

The car’s overall length is expected to exceed 5 meters, which could make it the longest estate in Audi’s history. Although the exact dimensions have not yet been disclosed, the model will clearly surpass both the production A6 Avant and the 2001 Avantissimo concept.

Design and Exterior

The first images of the car’s rear end without camouflage recently appeared online, allowing us to see key differences from the base model.

The rear window has a more gradual slope, and the license plate has been moved from the trunk lid to a redesigned bumper.

The car will retain the OLED LED headlights from the A6 and will also receive a pair of larger trapezoidal exhaust tips. The body side panels will largely follow the A6’s design, but the rear doors will be noticeably longer, and the rear overhang will be more extended.

Interior and Technical Equipment

The A7L Avant’s interior is expected to be high-tech, with a triple-display setup and software adapted for the Chinese market. As for powertrains, the most likely candidates are gasoline engines, possibly with a mild-hybrid system.

Among them are the familiar 2.0 TSI four-cylinder and the more powerful 3.0 TSI V6. The drivetrain will most likely be all-wheel drive (quattro), and the transmission will be a seven-speed dual-clutch.

Presentation and Production

Since a prototype has already been spotted on Chinese roads without camouflage, the official presentation could happen quite soon—within weeks or months. The model’s production will be established locally at SAIC’s facilities in China.

The emergence of the A7L Avant demonstrates how important the Chinese market has become for global automakers, forcing them to create exclusive models tailored to local preferences. The emphasis on space and length is a direct response to consumer demands, for whom a car’s status is often associated with its dimensions. The success of this model could influence Audi’s future strategy regarding creating extended versions for other regions.
