The new BMW X5 will receive a powerful gasoline V8 version, which will appear next year. Despite the futuristic design in the Neue Klasse style, the eight-cylinder engine will remain in the lineup, which should delight enthusiasts.
Specifications of the New M60 Version
The model is expected to be called the X5 M60 and will succeed the current X5 M60i. Under the hood will be a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 without any electrical assistance. In the predecessor, this engine produced 523 hp, but the new model, according to insider data, may receive a power increase to 603 hp and 800 Nm of torque. This will equalize it with the hybrid M60e version, which uses a 3.0-liter inline-six with an electric motor and a 26.5 kWh battery.
Differences from the Hybrid
The main difference between the versions lies in the approach to power. The M60e relies on hybrid technology, while the standard X5 M60 will have two additional cylinders, an extra turbocharger, and no electrification. This will certainly affect fuel consumption, but the engine sound will be significantly more emotional.
Place in the Lineup
It is worth noting that the X5 M60 will not be the flagship version. The full-fledged X5 M will likely receive both a V8 with a hybrid setup (similar to the one in the M5 with 727 hp) and a fully electric modification. This will allow BMW to leave enough room for increasing the M60’s power without creating competition for the older model.
Thus, the new X5 will offer a choice between a traditional V8, a hybrid inline-six, and future electric versions, catering to different customer preferences. Keeping the eight-cylinder engine in the era of electrification shows that BMW listens to its customers who value classic powertrains. At the same time, the company is actively developing hybrid and electric technologies to meet modern environmental standards and market demands.
