New Chevrolet Bolt Exceeds Promised 255-Mile Range

2027 Chevrolet Bolt Receives Official Range Rating

Chevrolet unveiled the 2027 model year Bolt electric crossover last fall, and has now published official EPA range data. According to the agency’s estimates, the vehicle is capable of traveling 262 miles (422 km) on a single charge. This figure is higher than GM’s initial forecast of 255 miles (410 km) and surpasses the results of previous generations of the Bolt (259 miles) and Bolt EUV (247 miles).

Comparison with Competitors and Key Features

Despite the improvement, the Bolt still falls short of the range of the 2026 Nissan Leaf, which is estimated at 303 miles (488 km). The difference of 41 miles (66 km) is noticeable. However, the new Bolt has a number of advantages that may compensate for this shortcoming.

These include the Super Cruise semi-autonomous driving system, as well as the Vehicle-to-Home bidirectional charging function. The latter allows powering a home during a power outage if the vehicle is integrated with the GM Energy home energy system.

The interior is equipped with an 11-inch digital instrument cluster and an 11.3-inch multimedia system with integrated Google services.

Technical Specifications and Pricing

The vehicle received a 65 kWh LFP battery that powers a single electric motor with 210 hp (157 kW) and 169 lb-ft (229 Nm) of torque. Using 150 kW fast charging allows the battery to be charged from 10% to 80% in 26 minutes.

The Bolt has become the first Chevrolet vehicle with a native NACS port, providing easy access to the Tesla Supercharger fast-charging network.

The base version of the 2027 Chevrolet Bolt is already arriving at dealerships and costs $29,990 USD, including delivery. It will soon be joined by an even more affordable modification starting at $28,995. Both prices are lower than the starting price of the Nissan Leaf, which is $31,485.

It should be noted that the Bolt is positioned as a limited-edition model, while the Leaf will remain on the market. Furthermore, Nissan plans to release its own budget version with a smaller 52 kWh battery.

The arrival of the 2027 Bolt with increased range and a competitive price demonstrates how intense the competition in the affordable electric vehicle market has become. Manufacturers are trying to find a balance between cost, performance, and unique features to attract buyers. The ability to use the extensive Tesla Supercharger network is a significant argument for the Bolt, as the availability of charging infrastructure remains one of the main barriers to the mass transition to electric transport. The limited production run of this model may indicate that GM views it as an intermediate step or a test platform for new technologies before launching the next generation of electric vehicles.
