First look at the new Hyundai i20
Hyundai has shown the next generation of the i20 for the first time, and the main detail immediately catches the eye — its front end. The teaser showcases an impressive new design that continues the brand’s recent trend of creating cars that look significantly more expensive than their price. The lighting signature stands out in particular, which seems to be borrowed straight from Sant’Agata.
LED headlights in the style of Lamborghini
The single teaser shows the i20 with Y-shaped LED daytime running lights connected by a light bar. These headlights closely resemble the shape of the DRLs on the Lamborghini Revuelto, as well as the taillights of this supercar.
None of these facts came as a surprise. Spy shots from last September already gave us a clear idea of these lights, so the teaser merely confirms what we suspected.
Production in Brazil
Although the current i20 is produced in Turkey and India, Hyundai Brazil published this teaser online, confirming that the new model will be assembled in Brazil. Other models already produced by Hyundai in Brazil include the HB20, HB20S, and Creta. According to Hyundai, the new i20 “will be positioned as a bridge between hatchbacks and the world of SUVs,” which may indicate that the Brazilian version will have a slightly higher ground clearance compared to other markets.
Updated interior
In addition to the redesigned front end, it is known that the new i20 will have a somewhat more square shape than the current model, with a new roof and angular side windows. In terms of size, it is roughly the same as its predecessor, although minor changes in dimensions are expected.
It is not yet known what the interior will look like, but there is a high probability that it will become another Hyundai model to receive the Pleos Connect infotainment system with a large central screen resembling a tablet. This new system debuted on the fully electric Ioniq 3 and is expected to appear in most new Hyundai models.
The new Hyundai i20 promises to be a standout in its class, combining bold, supercar-inspired design with the practicality of a modern hatchback. The shift in production site to Brazil could influence the model’s market strategy, while the updated interior with a new multimedia system is expected to boost its competitiveness. All that remains is to wait for the official unveiling to see all the details and learn the technical specifications.
