New Geely electric car achieves 450 miles on a battery that most EVs would consider compact

Geely’s new powertrain: 16 components in one unit

Geely recently unveiled the new Galaxy TT sedan, positioning it as a direct competitor to the Xiaomi SU7. Now, the manufacturer has revealed a key detail – the powertrain developed in collaboration with InfiMotion, Geely Auto Group’s partner in electric drivetrains.

The system, which Geely calls the 16-in-1 Intelligent E-Drive, integrates 16 key electric drive components into a single unit weighing just 75 kg. It includes an electric motor, DC-DC converter, onboard charger, vehicle control unit, motor controller, and high-voltage battery management system.

The housing is made of lightweight yet strong magnesium. Thanks to the extremely low weight of the unit, electrical losses have been minimized. According to Geely, the system’s efficiency reaches 93.8% under the CLTC cycle, making it one of the most efficient in the world.

High efficiency and a record

For owners, this means significant savings. During a drive around Qinghai Lake in China, the Galaxy TT recorded an average consumption of just 8.2 kWh per 100 km, setting a Guinness World Record for the lowest energy consumption among mass-produced electric sedans.

The model will be offered with three battery options: 52.4 kWh, 63.8 kWh, and 75.2 kWh. All operate on an 800-volt architecture, with the top version achieving a range of up to 725 km.

It is worth noting that for a car of this size, these batteries are quite compact. Thanks to high efficiency, there is no need to install a large and heavy battery. Geely has not yet disclosed all the details of the powertrain but notes that the all-wheel drive dual-motor version will deliver up to 425 kW, allowing acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds.

The system also uses AI-controlled torque management for faster response and more precise power delivery, while 54-channel directional cooling reduces the motor’s peak temperature by 15°C during sustained load.

Second record: drifting on a wet surface

Separately, the Galaxy TT earned another Guinness title – for the longest continuous drift of two vehicles on a wet surface among electric cars, covering over 46 km. This demonstration was intended to confirm torque response speed, thermal management efficiency, and operational stability under prolonged high load.

Thus, the Geely Galaxy TT not only challenges competitors like the Xiaomi SU7 but also demonstrates that efficiency and performance can go hand in hand. The compact 16-in-1 unit with a magnesium housing and record-breaking energy consumption bets on intelligent control and lightness, allowing the use of smaller batteries without compromising range. The additional drifting record underscores that engineers paid attention not only to economy but also to dynamics and handling, which is an important argument in the battle for buyers in the electric sedan segment.
