The new electric hatchback MG4 inspired by the Cyberster model

The first generation of MG4 was successful, but its successor is a significantly updated car.

The new electric car is larger in all dimensions than its predecessor, with a larger wheelbase.

The power comes from an electric motor with 161 hp, allowing it to accelerate to a speed of 99 miles per hour.

MG4 was one of the first modern Chinese electric cars to achieve international success. Not resting on its laurels, the brand is working on creating a new generation, and these photographs give us the first look at it. The brand could have been excused for simply updating the headlights and bumpers of the hatchback and considering the matter settled, but they have actually redesigned the entire car.

Local data shows that the new 4 is slightly larger than the model it replaces. It measures 4,395 mm (173 inches) in length, 1,842 mm (72.5 inches) in width, and 1,551 mm (61 inches) in height, with a wheelbase of 2,750 mm (108.2 inches). This makes it 108 mm (4.2 inches) longer, 6 mm (0.2 inches) wider, and 35 mm (1.3 inches) taller than the first generation, while the wheelbase has grown by 45 mm (1.7 inches).

The front of the new MG4 bears no resemblance to the model it replaces. While the current car favors sharp lines and aggressive edges, the new car is defined by curves and has far fewer straight lines than the old one. There are new headlights, a distinctive grille, new quarter panels, and a different hood.

MG designers have also created new door trims for the electric hatchback, and they are shown in these photos with new 16 and 17-inch diameter wheels. The rear has also been transformed, with key features including a light strip, unique taillights, and another bumper. It seems that the taillights of MG4 have been inspired and have arrow-shaped light signatures.

The new MG4 is equipped with a single electric motor with 161 hp (120 kW), enough for acceleration to 99 miles per hour (160 km/h). In comparison, the old electric car came with a 168 hp (125 kW) engine in standard trim but weighed 3,617 pounds (1641 kg), while the new one weighs only 3,237 pounds (1485 kg). It is likely that a version with a dual XPower engine will also be introduced soon.

Although the current MG4 has become a common sight on the roads of many countries, it fell out of fashion in 2023. Just after its launch in mid-2022, MG initially supplied over 5000 units monthly, but sales rapidly declined from early 2023. In February, only 13 units were sold in its home market.
