New Isuzu electric pickup prepares to showcase advantages over diesel models

  • The electric version of the Isuzu D-Max delivers 188 hp thanks to two electric motors.
  • A 66.9 kWh battery provides a range of 263 km according to the WLTP standard.
  • Pre-orders for the D-Max EV will begin in late 2025, with deliveries starting in March 2026.

Isuzu is entering the electric pickup market with a familiar design and a new powertrain. The manufacturer has officially unveiled the production version of the fully electric D-Max pickup, which will hit European roads in 2026.

Externally, the car is almost indistinguishable from the conventional model, but under the hood, it offers an eco-friendly alternative without sacrificing the practicality for which the D-Max is valued. Commercial enterprises and private buyers looking to move away from diesel while retaining payload capacity may consider this model.

Isuzu positions the D-Max EV as the first production electric pickup in Europe with full commercial functionality. Its main competitors will be future electric versions of other pickups.

Externally, the electric version is almost identical to the internal combustion engine models. Unlike the concept, the production D-Max EV does not feature a closed-off radiator grille. Changes are limited to minor details, such as special badges and the absence of an exhaust pipe. The charging port is located where the fuel filler would normally be.

For its debut, the D-Max EV comes in an exclusive Norwegian Blue color with black accents and 18-inch wheels. The model will be available in two trim levels with cabin options—extended and double.

Two electric motors and all-wheel drive

The D-Max EV is equipped with two electric motors with a combined output of 188 hp (140 kW) and 325 Nm of torque. This is 27 hp more than the diesel version but 35 Nm less torque. It features all-wheel drive with a Rough Terrain Mode, just like the conventional model.

Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h takes 10.1 seconds, and the top speed is 129 km/h. The payload capacity exceeds 1,000 kg, and towing capacity is 3.5 tons. Ground clearance is 210 mm, and wading depth is 600 mm.

Battery and charging

The 66.9 kWh lithium-ion battery provides a range of 263 km. Fast charging at up to 50 kW allows the battery to recharge from 20% to 80% in one hour. The battery warranty covers 8 years or 160,900 km.

The electric pickup is built on a modified chassis of the conventional D-Max, but a De-Dion system replaces the rear leaf springs for improved comfort.

The global premiere of the Isuzu D-Max EV took place at the commercial vehicle exhibition in Birmingham in 2025. Sales in the UK will begin in the second half of 2025, with the first deliveries in March 2026. The model will also be available in some European countries, including Norway.
