New Porsche Electric Off-Road Vehicle Sets Records Even Before Its Appearance in Showrooms

Porsche Cayenne Electric Sets Records

Porsche is preparing to present the electric version of the Cayenne this year, but has already managed to impress the public at the British hill climb Shelsey Walsh. The electric crossover broke the record for an SUV, completing the course 4 seconds faster than the previous holder—the Bentley Bentayga. Gabriela Jílková, a TAG Heuer test pilot, covered the 914-meter distance with a 16.7% incline in 31.28 seconds.

Interestingly, the Cayenne Electric showed the same time on the first 18.3 meters as special racing bolides with slick tires, despite Porsche using regular road tires. Although the exact power of the prototype is not disclosed, it is known to exceed 730 hp, as in the most powerful hybrid version of the Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid.

“The Active Ride suspension and the artificial sound in Track mode, similar to a V8, make the driving experience very special,” noted former Top Gear host Richard Hammond.

Technical Features

The new Cayenne Electric has received the Active Ride system, which is already used in the Taycan but is absent in the Macan EV. In addition to dynamic performance, an important aspect is its towing capabilities—the model is capable of towing up to 3.5 tons, which is equivalent to the figures of the conventional Cayenne and the Rivian R1S. Hammond tested this in practice, easily conquering the climb with a heavy retro car, the Lagonda.

The official debut of the electric Cayenne will take place at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, where the public will be able to appreciate its potential. The model will retain the traditional Porsche qualities—speed, comfort, and practicality—but now without CO₂ emissions. Alongside it, the conventional version with an internal combustion engine will continue to be sold, giving buyers a choice between classic and innovation.
