MG has unveiled its new flagship electric vehicle, the 07
SAIC MG has officially revealed the exterior design of its new flagship model, the 07. This vehicle is positioned as the “best choice in the new energy coupe segment.”
The design of the new model, according to the manufacturer, competes with “luxury coupes priced at ¥700,000 ($102,930)”, but is offered at a price of less than ¥200,000 ($29,410). This is a clear hint at the Porsche Taycan, which starts at ¥918,000 ($134,985) in China.

The similarity is indeed obvious — the MG 07 looks like a slightly “chubby” Taycan. However, it seems something was lost in the translation of the design, and the proportions do not look entirely ideal.
Nevertheless, the model looks quite attractive. It features C-shaped lighting units, a convex hood, a wide lower air intake with active grille shutters, and a prominent sensor.
Technical features and platform
From the side, a sloping windshield is noticeable, which seamlessly transitions into a long curved roof. A lidar is mounted above the windshield. There are also ventilation openings on the front fenders and door handles in the Taycan style. The rear of the car, according to reviewers, could be more sporty.
MG is not yet revealing all the technical details, but at Auto China it was announced that the 07 is based on SAIC’s latest electric vehicle platform. The car will be available in both a fully electric version and a plug-in hybrid powertrain version.
Autonomous driving and prices
For more expensive versions (priced around ¥300,000 or $44,112), the Momenta R7 autonomous driving system will be available. It promises an Urban Navigate on Autopilot function and a “seamless driving experience from parking spot to parking spot.”
The system not only imitates human driving but also “possesses physical scene understanding and predictive thinking similar to an experienced driver.” This allows it to perform proactive defensive maneuvers to enhance safety.
More details are expected to be revealed in the coming weeks. It is also reported that the car will display turquoise lights when driving in autonomous mode.
Thus, the MG 07 becomes yet another example of how Chinese automakers are trying to combine premium design with an affordable price. Although the visual similarity to the Porsche Taycan is obvious, the company is betting on advanced autonomous driving technologies and flexibility in choosing the powertrain. This allows them to compete not only in appearance but also in functionality, offering buyers a modern electric vehicle at a price significantly lower than European counterparts. It is worth noting that such a strategy could be successful in the domestic Chinese market, where price and technological sophistication often matter more than design originality.
