New BYD Hybrid with Seven Seats Eliminates the Fear of a Drained Battery

New BYD Sealion 8: A Hybrid SUV with Powerful Specifications

The Chinese automaker BYD has introduced a new model, the Sealion 8, which will become part of its rapidly growing model range. This SUV is available exclusively in a hybrid version (for now) and offers two modifications:

Both versions are equipped with a 1.5-liter turbocharged petrol engine that works in tandem with electric motors. The Sealion 8 is not planned for sale in the USA, but it will be available in other markets, including Australia.

Competition with Electric SUVs

Thanks to its specifications, the Sealion 8 could become a serious competitor to electric SUVs like the Kia EV9. Unlike them, the BYD hybrid version relieves drivers of “range anxiety,” which is especially relevant for regions with weak charging infrastructure.

The fuel consumption of the Sealion 8 is only 5.6 l/100 km, and the larger battery provides up to 150 km of range on pure electric power.

Additionally, the car is equipped with the BYD DiPilot 300 autonomous driving system, which includes radars, cameras, and lidar. In China, this model is known as the Tang L and is also offered in a fully electric version with a 100.5 kWh battery. It is not yet known if the electric version will appear on international markets.

BYD continues to amaze with its innovative solutions, combining traditional technologies with electrification. The Sealion 8 could become the ideal choice for those looking for a powerful yet economical SUV without the drawbacks of fully electric models. The charging speed of the Chinese version is particularly impressive — only 30 minutes for a full battery charge.
