New Hybrid Sedan from Nissan Has Altima’s Dimensions, But Costs Thousands Less Than Versa

New Sedan Launch

Following the success of the all-electric N7, Nissan’s joint venture with Dongfeng has introduced the new N6 plug-in hybrid sedan. It is already available for pre-order, starting from 106,900 yuan ($15,000), and even the base version is well-equipped, proving once again: in the ruthless price war in China, there is always room for discounts.

Design and Dimensions

The N6 was first shown in August and strongly resembles the N7’s design. Despite the shared design language, the sedans produced by Dongfeng do not share body panels and have slightly different dimensions.

The N6 is slightly more compact: its length is 4,831 mm with a wheelbase of 2,815 mm, and the trunk volume is 570 liters. This makes it similar in size to the Altima for the American market, which has a length of 4,900 mm and a wheelbase of 2,825 mm.

Powertrain Details

While the N7 relies solely on electric power, the N6 differs by having an internal combustion engine under the hood, although most of the propulsion is still provided by an electric motor.

The plug-in hybrid setup delivers a combined 208 hp and 320 Nm of torque, accelerating the car from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.8 seconds. The capacious 21.1 kWh battery provides an electric-only range of up to 180 km under the generous CLTC testing cycle.

Trims and Equipment

Buyers can choose between three trims – Pro, Max, and Max+, which share the same technical basis. The base Pro offers 17-inch wheels, an electric sunroof, ambient interior lighting, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, and a 14.6-inch multimedia system screen.

Forget The Rogue, This Electrified SUV Could Be Nissan’s Next Big Thing

The top Max+ trim features a larger 15.6-inch touchscreen and Nissan’s “AI Zero-Pressure Cloud Carpet Seat” for the driver. The seat integrates 49 pressure sensors and provides 14-mode electric adjustment, lumbar and leg support, as well as heating, ventilation, and even massage functions.

Additional benefits include anti-motion sickness technology, driver face recognition, and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8775 chip, whereas the lower trims use the 8155 processor. The system also supports more advanced driver assistance features.

Pricing

The standard starting price for the N6 in China is 109,900 yuan ($15,500), making it 10,000 yuan ($1,400) cheaper than the N7. However, Nissan announced special prices for the pre-order period, further enhancing the plug-in hybrid model’s value for money. Deliveries are scheduled to begin on December 8th.

Deliveries are planned to start on December 8th.

For those tracking prices, the base N6 model costs almost $2,400 less than the significantly smaller 122-hp Nissan Versa in the United States, and even the fully equipped flagship version is still approximately $400 cheaper than the base Versa trim.

Model Discounted Pre-order Price US Dollars

Competition and Future Plans

Competitors from local brands still offer cheaper options. The Geely Galaxy A7 starts from 81,800 yuan ($11,500), while the BYD Qin L starts from 96,800 yuan ($13,600). Despite this, Nissan is betting on a combination of sophistication and technology to attract buyers looking for a hybrid with a more premium character.

During the local launch of the N6, Nissan announced that by the end of 2027, the two sedans will be complemented by four SUVs with battery-electric, plug-in hybrid, and range-extender powertrains.

This launch demonstrates how Nissan is adapting to fierce competition in the Chinese market by offering technologically advanced models at competitive prices. The further expansion of the electrified SUV lineup by 2027 indicates the brand’s long-term strategy in a region where demand for eco-friendly vehicles continues to grow. The pre-order conditions make the N6 a particularly attractive option for those seeking a balanced solution between electric mobility and hybrid flexibility.
