New Kia Seltos Showcases Futuristic Design Ahead of Official Premiere

The official premiere of the new generation Kia Seltos will take place on December 10

Kia has announced the date for the world premiere of the completely updated second-generation Seltos and has released the first official teasers. This subcompact model, positioned below the Sportage in the brand’s global lineup, has received a complete redesign.

The main expected innovations include:

Design Inspired by Electric Vehicles

The Seltos, first introduced in 2019 and updated in 2022, is now preparing for a more profound modernization. The teasers confirm the appearance of a more cubic silhouette, which was previously hinted at on camouflaged prototypes. The design was developed within the “Opposites United” philosophy.

The design of the new Seltos combines the rugged heritage of former ICE-powered off-roaders with the clean aerodynamic sophistication of Kia’s latest electric vehicles.

At the front, the car has received slim vertical LED headlights framing a wide radiator grille with integrated daytime running lights. The rising window line and floating roof line are reminiscent of the fully electric Kia EV5. Similar parallels can be drawn with the rear lights. Among other details are hidden door handles, modern mirrors, and aluminum roof rails and underbody protection. The new model will also be offered in more off-road-oriented X-Line and sporty GT-Line versions.

Increased Dimensions and Expected Technologies

The second generation will apparently have larger dimensions compared to its predecessor, which was 4,365 mm long. This should positively impact interior space. The manufacturer promises a “high-tech character” for the interior, hinting at the appearance of a new digital instrument panel, higher-quality trim materials, and more advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).

Hybrid in the Powertrain Lineup

Regarding powertrains, according to preliminary data, the new Seltos will receive gasoline and hybrid units. Among possible options are an improved version of the turbocharged 1.6-liter gasoline engine and a self-charging hybrid unit already used in the Hyundai Kona and Kia Niro. The appearance of a hybrid version with electric drive on the rear axle (e-AWD) is also expected.

The Seltos is a global Kia model and will be supplied to various world markets. It is possible that the new generation will finally appear in Europe, where it could take a position below the Sportage. All information about the model will be revealed during the official presentation on December 10.

The Seltos update is happening in an extremely competitive segment where new powerful players appear every year. The emphasis on hybrid technologies and design echoing electric vehicles is a logical step to attract both traditional engine enthusiasts and those oriented toward the future. The model’s success may largely depend on how successfully the proclaimed “off-road heritage” has been combined with the real capabilities and efficiency of the new powertrains in everyday use.
