New Compact Electric Cupra Hatchback Prepares to Revolutionize the World of Sports Cars

Cupra Raval Presentation

At the IAA Mobility auto show in Munich, Cupra presented a camouflaged prototype of the production version of the fully electric compact hatchback Raval, planned for an official launch in 2026. This model, developed as a sports electric vehicle, will become the “brother” of the Volkswagen ID. Polo and aims to demonstrate that electric cars can be exciting and desirable.

Design and Dimensions

The Raval retains similarities with the concept presented two years ago, although some details have become slightly simpler. Key elements include aggressive LED headlights, a sporty bumper, sharp rear lights, and three-spoke alloy wheels in copper and black colors.

The compact hatchback has a length of 4,046 mm, a width of 1,784 mm, a height of 1,518 mm, and a wheelbase of 2,600 mm, making it similar in size to the Seat Ibiza with an internal combustion engine.

Technical Features

The Raval is built on the MEB+ architecture with a front electric motor in “several power levels” and two battery options. It shares this platform with the ID. Polo, as well as the future ID. Cross and Skoda Epiq crossovers.

To differentiate itself from other VW Group models, Cupra has equipped the Raval with a sporty chassis that matches its aggressive appearance. All versions of the electric car have a 15 mm lower clearance, a unique suspension, progressive steering, and ESC Sport.

VZ Version

The performance-oriented VZ version will be the “evil twin” of the ID. Polo GTI. It will receive a more powerful 223 hp electric motor, an electronic VAQ differential on the front axle, a sporty DCC suspension, an ESC Off mode, and 19-inch wheels with 235 mm widths. Cupra did not specify if the Raval VZ will have different body kit, but confirmed the presence of carbon “CUPBucket” seats in the interior.

Safety and Technology

Safety systems will include advanced ADAS, such as Travel Assist with lane change and traffic light recognition functions, Intelligent Park Assist, and a 360° Area View camera.

Markus Haupt, Acting CEO of Cupra, noted: “The Cupra Raval shapes our future. We have combined in it everything that defines Cupra: emotions, stunning design, exciting performance, and driver orientation. For us, it is more than a car. What makes it special is the Electric Urban Car Family project, which we lead from Spain. We are enhancing synergy within the Brand Group Core and turning the country into a center of electromobility, making these cars accessible to millions.”

Production and Competitors

The Raval is scheduled to hit the roads in 2026, when the brand will celebrate its eighth anniversary. Cupra is expected to reach the milestone of one million cars delivered in the coming months.

Production of the Raval will take place at the VW Group plant in Martorell (Spain) alongside the VW ID. Polo. Its competitors will include the Renault 5 E-Tech, Mini Cooper Electric, and the future Hyundai Ioniq 3.
