New Nissan Crossover Feels Like an Electric Vehicle But Runs on Gasoline

Nissan Introduces Updated e-Power Hybrid System for Qashqai

Nissan continues to improve its e-Power hybrid technology. The new version of the system will first appear in the European version of the Qashqai, and will later be used in the American Rogue and the Japanese minivan Elgrand.

As the manufacturer states, the updated system combines “the range and convenience of a diesel with the comfort and dynamics of an electric vehicle.” Along with technical updates, the crossover received an updated design and new features.

Improved Efficiency

Fuel consumption in the new version is 4.5 l/100 km according to the WLTP standard, which is 0.8 l less than the previous model. The range on one tank reaches 1200 km, and CO2 emissions have been reduced from 116 to 102 g/km.

The system is based on a new 1.5-liter gasoline engine with a larger turbocharger. Unlike conventional hybrids, this engine does not transmit power to the wheels but acts as a generator for the electric motor and a 2.1 kWh battery.

Comfort and Power

Nissan engineers have reduced the cabin noise level by 5.6 dB compared to the previous generation. The maximum power of the system increased by 15 hp to 202 hp, which is available in a new sport mode.

Production of the updated Qashqai e-Power will begin at the plant in Sunderland (Great Britain) from September 2025. In North America, this system will debut in the new Rogue by the end of the 2026 fiscal year.

Hybrid technologies are becoming increasingly popular among buyers looking for a balance between traditional internal combustion engines and electric vehicles. Updates from Nissan show that this segment continues to develop actively, offering increasingly efficient solutions.
