Chery introduces new hybrid pickup Jetour Zongheng F700
Chery, which recently launched the new Stockman pickup to compete in the crowded midsize pickup segment, is already preparing its next move. Its off-road adventure-oriented sub-brand Jetour will unveil a new model, the Zongheng F700 — a plug-in hybrid pickup that will compete with the BYD Shark 6.
A concept of this vehicle was shown in April 2025, and an extreme 6×6 version appeared in April 2026. Now Jetour has released the first images of the production version, which will debut at the Guangzhou Auto Show in November.
Design and exterior
The first thing that catches the eye is the massive block-shaped headlights connected to an aggressive radiator grille reminiscent of the Toyota Land Cruiser style. The vehicle’s profile looks quite standard: black roof pillars, plenty of plastic cladding, and sculpted fenders.
The rear end is typical for a midsize pickup: modern taillights and side steps integrated into the bumper. Jetour showed photos of the model with camping gear and off-road accessories, including a roof tent, metal roof racks, a snorkel, and additional LED lights.
Dimensions and chassis
According to documents from China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the F700 is 5,495 mm long, which is 45 mm longer than the Chery Stockman. The wheelbase reaches 3,350 mm, exceeding benchmarks like the Ford Ranger and Toyota Hilux, and is also longer than the BYD Shark 6, its main competitor.
Interior and technology
The vehicle’s interior is equipped with a display that stretches from pillar to pillar along the base of the windshield — the same concept BMW uses in its Neue Klasse vehicles. Next to it is a large touchscreen for the infotainment system, and on the high-mounted center console there are physical buttons for those who want to control functions without needing to look at the screen.
Powertrain and suspension
The Jetour Zongheng F700 is built on a ladder frame chassis with a rear coil-spring suspension and a front double-wishbone suspension. Unlike the diesel plug-in hybrid Chery Stockman, this pickup will feature a gasoline plug-in hybrid powertrain.
The turbocharged 2.0-liter engine produces 208 hp on its own, without accounting for the electric motors. Jetour has not yet announced the total output, but for comparison, the G700 SUV with a similar hybrid system develops up to 892 hp and 1,135 Nm of torque.
Battery and range
Energy will be stored in a CATL Shenxing battery pack. Chinese media report that the model will support fast charging, allowing the battery to be charged from 20% to 80% in just 10 minutes. The total driving range, according to optimistic CLTC protocols, is expected to reach 1,300 km.
Market debut
The Jetour Zongheng F700 is expected to go on sale by the end of this year. In addition to China, where production will be established, this electrified pickup will likely also appear in export markets.
Thus, Chery continues to actively expand its pickup lineup, offering a variety of options for different market segments. The Zongheng F700, with its hybrid powertrain and off-road capabilities, has every chance of becoming a worthy competitor not only to the BYD Shark 6 but also to other popular models in this class. It is worth noting that the use of a ladder frame chassis and a powerful hybrid system makes it an attractive choice for those seeking a combination of payload capacity, off-road capability, and fuel efficiency. All that remains is to wait for the official technical specifications and prices to assess its real competitiveness.
