The New Land Rover Defender V8 Will Amaze You With Its Charm, But the Price Will Surprise You

Land Rover Classic has introduced the new Defender V8 Soft Top in a restomod style.

This model is based on the Defender 90 from 2012-2016 and is equipped with a 405-horsepower V8 engine.

Customization options include 49 paint variants and a personalized interior selection.

Close to summer, Land Rover unveiled the updated Defender V8 Works Bespoke Soft Top, which will be the perfect accessory for beach relaxation. Although the name is a bit complex, the model captivates with its atmospheric charm.

The new Defender Soft Top is the first in the last ten years and is based on the version produced between 2012 and 2016. After sourcing a donor vehicle, it is “significantly improved and reworked.”

Since this is primarily a lightweight restomod, there aren’t many changes. However, the model features a custom cotton top available in black, dark khaki, blue, or sand. Land Rover noted that “the sides and rear can be unfastened and rolled up for open-top driving, while maintaining some level of weather protection.” They also mentioned that additional attachment points were added to help secure the top at highway speeds.

Customers looking for something more minimalist can opt for a “bikini”-style top. It comes in the same colors but only protects the front passengers.

Buyers can choose from 49 paint options. If none of them suit, the Works Bespoke match-to-sample paint service is available. Customers can also customize numerous other details, including the grille, door handles, and hood lettering—among other things.

Standard features include 16-inch steel wheels with off-road coating. However, buyers can upgrade to larger 18-inch alloy wheels in black or limestone.

Customization extends to the interior, where five solid and eight two-tone leather options are offered, ranging from Liberty Blue to Garnet. Customers can even get a custom surfboard holder or a wine cooler.

Power comes from a 5.0-liter V8 producing 405 hp (302 kW / 411 PS) and 380 lb-ft (515 Nm) of torque. It is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and a standard all-wheel-drive system with a two-speed transfer case. This allows the model to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph (0-96 km/h) in 5.6 seconds before reaching a top speed of 106 mph (171 km/h).

To enhance the driving experience, Land Rover Classic has upgraded the brakes to sturdier Alcon units and reworked the suspension. It includes Eibach anti-roll bars, Bilstein dampers, and revised spring rates.

The price in the UK starts at £195,000 ($260,170) excluding local taxes. This is nearly £50,000 ($66,730) more than the previous generation, and buyers only get a one-year unlimited-mileage warranty.
