Update of the Land Rover Discovery Model Range for 2027
Land Rover has unveiled the updated Discovery for 2027. This update came as a surprise, as the fifth-generation model, which debuted in the fall of 2016, appears to be nearing the end of its lifecycle. Instead of an entirely new generation, the manufacturer introduced a special Landmark Edition version, which often precedes the discontinuation of a model.
Special Landmark Edition Version
As Autocar notes, Land Rover has previously released farewell Landmark Edition series for the Discovery II, LR3, and LR4. The new version is intended to “celebrate the essence of Discovery” and occupies an intermediate position between the S and Tempest trims. Its main feature is the unique Tasman Blue body color, inspired by the Clearwater Blue shade offered on the original model.
The vehicle features Carpathian Grey protective moldings, Graphite Atlas accents on the grille, fender vents, and emblems. It also comes with 21-inch alloy wheels in a new Dark Agate Grey finish.
Interior Features and Equipment
When the front doors are opened, a mountain landscape image is projected onto the ground. A similar motif appears on the door sills and the dark grey aluminum trim. The cabin also includes Tech Velour door panels, a panoramic roof, and a refrigerator in the center console.
The Landmark Edition starts at $70,800. Standard equipment includes air suspension, a black contrast roof, and a power tailgate. Notable technologies include a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, an 11.4-inch infotainment system, wireless charging, four-zone climate control, and an 11-speaker Meridian audio system. The safety suite includes adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, and emergency braking.
Discontinuation of the Four-Cylinder Engine
The base Discovery S trim now starts at $64,900. The main change is the discontinuation of the turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. All versions are now equipped with a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder Ingenium engine producing 355 hp (265 kW). With this engine, the SUV accelerates to 60 mph (96 km/h) in 6.2 seconds, with a top speed of 130 mph (209 km/h).
Top Tempest Trim
The flagship Discovery Tempest version starts at $84,300. It has received minor updates, including a new Borasco Grey body color. The interior features updated upholstery and more luxurious front seats with massage and driver memory functions.
Thus, Land Rover is not only updating the model but also simplifying the engine lineup, making the six-cylinder unit the only available option. The appearance of the farewell Landmark Edition series hints that the current generation of the Discovery likely will not receive a direct successor in the traditional sense. Earlier rumors suggested a possible reimagining of the model with inspiration from minivans, which could radically change the positioning of this SUV in the future. For now, buyers are offered a well-equipped and proven version that seems to be concluding a certain chapter in the model’s history.
