by In Ukraine, Renault Logan (in Europe – Dacia Logan) has been a leader in sales for several years. Renault Logan can be seen in government service, taxis, and corporate fleets. Affordable, simple, reliable, and practical in terms of cost – such a reputation Logan has earned in various corners of the world – from Ukraine to India.
This is the third generation of Renault/Dacia Logan, whose predecessor has been produced since 2012 without significant changes (except for a facelift in 2016). Now, it is a completely new car, as well as its siblings, the Sandero and Sandero Stepway. The new 2021 Logan has changed externally, received a 100% new interior, and slightly increased in size.
Exterior and External Changes
The design of the interior and exterior has been completely rethought.
By the way, the platform is also completely new – this is the CMF-B (from the new Renault Clio). The latest new Logan and Sandero have inherited 20% of common parts.
At the front, the 2021 Logan and the new generation Sandero are distinguished by Y-shaped LED optics. Note: LED low-beam headlights and LED daytime running lights are standard equipment on the base versions of the 2021 Logan and Sandero! According to Renault Group, LED lighting is 9% more efficient than the current generation models.
Not everyone knows, but engineers also worked on the invisible-to-the-eye construction – the new models received a redesigned underbody, which allowed for better aerodynamics, reduced cabin noise, and improved fuel efficiency. In addition to this, the almost flat underbody increased the car’s stability at high speeds.
Another new ‘feature’ is the active shutters, which close at high speeds (to reduce aerodynamic resistance) and during engine warm-up when it is cold. These active shutters are standard, starting from the base version (at least for the European specification)!
If you look closely, you will notice that the new 2021 Logan and Sandero have a more dynamic silhouette – this was achieved thanks to a greater windshield inclination and a lowered roof (by 10 mm in the center and 20 mm at the rear). In the European modifications, the clearance varies from 133 mm to 174 mm – the largest ground clearance is in the Stepway. As for the dimensions, the length of the 2021 Logan increased by 37 mm (up to 4396 mm), the wheelbase by 14 mm (up to 2649 mm), and the width remained virtually unchanged (1848 mm). Also noteworthy is that for the first time for these cars, a sunroof with electric drive is offered optionally.
A cool feature appeared in the Sandero Stepway.
The off-road version received ‘smart’ roof rails that can be disassembled and assembled transversely, allowing luggage and bicycles to be carried on the roof without purchasing additional crossbars.

The interior design of Logan and Sandero is traditionally identical (except for the Stepway, which has individual stylistic features). According to Renault, the materials have improved, and the seats are more comfortable. On the central console is an 8-inch touchscreen multimedia system that is available in more expensive configurations. There is also automatic climate control.
Regarding cabin space, thanks to the increased wheelbase and internal restructuring, there is more room in the back row – knee space increased by 42 mm. Furthermore, the rear row can move forward and backward by 70 mm, increasing the trunk or legroom.
New features include foldable tables with cup holders built into the backrests of the front seats.
The trunk volume of the new generation Logan sedan is 528 liters (+18 liters), and the Sandero is almost 200 liters less. It’s also important to note that engineers reduced the loading height by 19 mm.
Specifications, Engines, and Transmissions
The biggest disappointment for us Ukrainians, perhaps, is the fact that Renault removed the diesel engine from the range. Of course, there’s hope it will be provided for us, but it is unlikely.
Currently known, the 2021 Logan and Sandero model year will receive three 1-liter petrol engines. The simplest is a naturally aspirated engine with 65 horsepower, followed by the turbocharged alternative with 90 hp, and the most powerful is the 100 hp Eco-G running on liquefied gas. If the latter is sold in Ukraine, we are confident it will become the most demanded and fill the absence of diesel.
The transmission options include 5- and 6-speed manuals and a continuously variable transmission.
There is no official information on fuel consumption yet. However, the LPG version will definitely be the most economical in terms of cost per kilometer in our reality.
Prices
When will it be possible to buy new budget Renault cars in Ukraine? Probably, in the second half of 2021. As for the cost of the 2021 Sandero and Logan, the French promise that the price will not differ much from the current models, but the final prices will be revealed closer to the start of sales, in the summer of 2021.
