New Maybach GLS — the worst nightmare for Rolls-Royce

Mercedes-Maybach has unveiled the updated flagship GLS: teaser reveals details of the luxury SUV

Mercedes-Maybach wasted no time applying its signature approach to the recently updated GLS. A teaser has appeared on social media showcasing the new flagship SUV. While the design may not be striking in its sophistication, it promises to be bold and capable of competing with the Rolls-Royce Cullinan and Bentley Bentayga in the luxury segment.

It has been just over three months since the update of the GLS, as well as the GLE and GLE Coupe. The update included a revised design with star-shaped daytime running lights and modernized LED taillights. The new Maybach GLS will expand on the capabilities of the standard model, utilizing the best materials available to the German brand.

Design and Lighting Features

In a short teaser posted on Instagram, it can be seen that the new Maybach GLS will retain the daytime running lights of the standard model but will feature an illuminated ring around the front grille. Additionally, an illuminated Maybach logo and a glowing Mercedes-Benz emblem will appear on the hood.

Other Changes and Expected Updates

Like the pre-facelift version, the new GLS by Maybach will undoubtedly be equipped with chrome accents, including the front grille, air intakes, and parts of the front and rear bumpers. Its launch will occur a few months after the debut of the new S-Class by Maybach, so it may also feature similar forged wheels with a floating star center cap.

Interior and Technology

The new GLS is expected to feature the flagship MBUX Superscreen system with exclusive Maybach graphics and menus. Spacious captain’s chairs in the second row, a refrigerated storage compartment, and the finest imaginable leather are also anticipated.

Powertrain

Details about the powertrain are not yet known. The previous Maybach GLS 600 was equipped with a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 producing 550 hp and 729 Nm of torque. It is highly likely that the updated Maybach will receive a new 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 with a flat-plane crankshaft from Mercedes-Benz, delivering similar power but complying with Euro 7 standards.

2026 Mercedes-Benz GLS

The update of the GLS lineup, including the Maybach version, is part of Mercedes-Benz’s strategy to strengthen its position in the ultra-luxury SUV segment. Competing with the Rolls-Royce Cullinan and Bentley Bentayga requires not only power but also a unique ownership experience. Illuminated elements and exclusive interior materials are intended to create a sense of special status. The introduction of new technologies, such as the MBUX Superscreen, is also a crucial step in attracting a younger audience of buyers who value innovation. At the same time, the transition to a new Euro 7-compliant engine demonstrates the brand’s commitment to meeting stringent environmental standards without compromising performance. Thus, the new Maybach GLS is set to be not just an update, but a powerful statement of leadership in the segment.
