The New Mercedes C-Class Finally Implements What Has Long Been Awaited

New Electric Mercedes C-Class with EQ Technology

Despite Mercedes-Benz somewhat scaling back its electric ambitions due to a global slowdown in demand, the company is preparing to launch several very important electric vehicles. Among them is the first fully electric C-Class sedan, whose presentation is scheduled for the second half of 2026.

The model is expected to receive the long name C-Class with EQ Technology, similar to the electric GLC SUV with EQ Technology, which debuted in September of last year.

Technical Features and Platform

The new electric C-Class will share many technologies with the electric GLC. Both models will be built on the new modular Mercedes MB.EA platform, while the smaller CLA sedan will use a different MMA architecture.

The electric sedan will inherit the large, traditionally-styled radiator grille, first introduced on the GLC. This design element is likely to appear on many of the brand’s future models. It is important to note that the electric version of the C-Class will be sold in parallel with the updated version of the conventional C-Class with internal combustion engines.

Specifications and Range

Like the electric GLC, the new C-Class will receive an 800-volt electrical architecture. The C400 modification is expected to have a powertrain with two motors producing approximately 483 hp, enabling acceleration to 60 mph (97 km/h) in less than 5 seconds.

The model may be equipped with a 94 kWh battery pack, similar to the one installed in the SUV. Thanks to the sedan’s lower weight and improved aerodynamics, its range is expected to exceed the excellent GLC figure of 443 miles (713 km) and possibly approach the 450+ mile mark.

Interior and Competitors

Judging by previous spy photos, the interior of the electric C-Class will receive a massive 39.1-inch (99.3 cm) long MBUX Hyperscreen display that stretches across the entire dashboard. This will give the cabin a modern and technological appearance.

A direct competitor to the German innovation will be the electric BMW i3 sedan on the Neue Klasse architecture, whose debut is also expected this fall. BMW is expected to emphasize a projection display, minimizing traditional screens on the dashboard, which may seem a more futuristic solution. The exterior of the BMW i3 also promises to be radically new, which may not appeal to all fans of the classic 3 Series design.

It is obvious that by 2027, buyers of electric sedans will have a rich choice between two German premium newcomers. The competition between the Mercedes C-Class with EQ Technology and the BMW i3 will mark a new stage in the development of electric transport in the business sedan segment, where traditional values such as comfort and status combine with cutting-edge technologies. The success of each model will depend not only on technical specifications but also on how successfully the brands manage to convey their DNA in the new, electric dimension, preserving recognizability for the existing audience and attracting a new one.
