The New Mercedes CLA Shooting Brake Has Lost Some of Its Appeal Compared to Its Predecessor

New Mercedes CLA Shooting Brake: Electric and Hybrid Versions

The updated CLA Shooting Brake has become the first model to be offered with both an internal combustion engine and an electric drive. After the sedan presentation, the company also introduced the Shooting Brake version. Although the original CLA Shooting Brake was considered one of the most beautiful Mercedes models, the new version does not quite measure up to it visually. However, it looks better than the second-generation CLA.

The changes start from the B-pillar onwards. The roof has become longer and is equipped with panoramic glass, and the rear features LED taillights connected by a light strip. The new shape has improved rear headroom by 26 mm and increased trunk volume to 1290 liters with the seats folded.

Technical Features

Mercedes emphasizes the panoramic roof, which is made of thermally insulating glass with an infrared coating. It also has 158 stars that can be illuminated along with the main interior lighting. An option for electrochromic glass that can turn matte is available.

“The CLA 250+ EQ Shooting Brake can travel up to 761 km on a single charge according to the WLTP standard”

Currently, only two electric versions are presented: the CLA 250+ Shooting Brake with EQ Technology and the more powerful CLA 350 4Matic. Both use an 85 kWh battery, but the CLA 250+ develops 268 hp, while the CLA 350 develops 349 hp. Acceleration to 100 km/h takes 6.8 and 5.0 seconds, respectively. The top speed is limited to 210 km/h.

An important aspect is the range: the CLA 250+ can travel up to 761 km, and the CLA 350 up to 730 km. Both models support fast charging up to 320 kW, allowing for the recovery of about 310 km of range in 10 minutes.

Interior and Expectations

The interior of the new CLA Shooting Brake is practically identical to the sedan, which may disappoint brand fans. The instrument panel remains flat, with the possibility of installing up to three screens in the MBUX Superscreen configuration. This contrasts with the elegance of the exterior, but large screens are now in trend.

Official prices and delivery dates have not yet been announced, but the model is expected to appear in dealerships by the end of this year. Despite some shortcomings, the new CLA Shooting Brake offers improved technology and increased comfort, making it an interesting option for premium car enthusiasts.
