New Mercedes GLB spotted on the road with original rear lights

New Mercedes GLB 2027: what is known

Mercedes-Benz is preparing an updated version of the compact crossover GLB, which will debut in 2027. The prototype has already been tested on the Nürburgring track. The car will retain its practical square shape but will receive the new MMA platform, already used in the CLA and GLA.

Technical features and design

Electric versions of the GLB will operate on an 800-volt architecture, offering various battery and drivetrain options. Gasoline models, like the one spotted during testing, will get two power variants: 134 hp for base trims and 187 hp for more expensive versions.

Mercedes’ new star-shaped DRLs will make an appearance at the front, while the rear will feature a long strip of LEDs shaped like a Mexican bandito ’tache running up the side of the rear hatch.

Externally, the GLB will receive updated optics with star-shaped LED daytime running lights and a bright light strip at the rear. For the first time in the lineup, there will be an off-road-oriented version, aligning with the trend for “rugged” crossovers.

The interior is expected to be updated: a full digital dashboard, like in the CLA, and an optional third row of seats, which remains a GLB advantage in competing with the BMW X1 and Audi Q3. The electric version will debut earlier than the gasoline one, and the model will be part of the 2027 lineup.

The official presentation is expected no earlier than next year. The company is betting on flexibility, offering customers a choice between traditional and electric powertrains. This underscores Mercedes-Benz’s strategy of gradually transitioning to electric vehicles without abruptly abandoning internal combustion engines.
