The New Mercedes VLE Could Become The Most Luxurious Electric Minivan in the USA

New Electric Vans from Mercedes

Mercedes-Benz is preparing to introduce new electric models, the VLE and VLS, which will replace the aging EQV. Both models are based on the VAN.EA platform, developed specifically for the brand’s future electric vans. They offer a modular construction with a focus on batteries and a flat floor.

Elegant Design

The VLE’s design is inspired by the controversial Vision V concept, retaining key details such as the radiator grille, three-section headlights, and chrome accents. The side profile resembles the Mercedes R-Class, and the rear features LED taillights and a folded design.

Luxurious Interior

The VLE’s interior will inherit elements from the Vision V concept and the production EQS, including the wide MBUX Hyperscreen with the MB.OS operating system. Sustainable materials are used, such as recycled leather and wood. The seating layout varies: the VLE offers three rows, while the VLS features individual driver’s seats.

Technological features include a Level 2+ driver assistance system, augmented reality navigation, entertainment screens, and wireless charging. Over-the-air software updates are also expected.

Modular Platform

Both models are built on the modular VAN.EA platform, which allows for creating vehicles of different sizes and configurations. The platform is battery-oriented, ensuring a flat floor, more interior space, and a lower center of gravity. Rear-wheel steering improves maneuverability.

Power and Range

The VLE will offer single- and dual-motor variants: a rear motor with approximately 268 hp and a 4MATIC all-wheel drive with up to 470 hp. Battery capacity will range from 90 kWh to 116 kWh, providing a range of over 500 km. The models will support fast charging up to 350 kW, as well as vehicle-to-grid technology.

Competitors and Release Plans

In the luxury van market, the VLE will face competitors such as the Lexus LM, Volvo EM90, and Zeekr 009. In North America, a potential competitor could be the Volkswagen ID. Buzz LWB. The official presentation of the VLE and VLS will take place this year, with sales starting in 2026 in Europe, North America, and China.

Mercedes continues to invest in electrification, demonstrating its ability to combine luxury with innovation. The new VAN.EA platform allows the brand to scale production efficiently, which could be a key factor in the battle for electric vehicle market share. Growing competition in this segment is spurring improvements in technology and design, which ultimately benefits the consumer.
