New Kia Minivan with ICE Looks Like an Electric Crossover

On May 8th, the official presentation of the new Kia Clavis model will take place in India, which will expand the brand’s global model range. Although the car has a different name, it is essentially a modernized version of the Carens – an affordable minivan with three rows of seats and crossover design elements.

The teaser demonstrates the Clavis’s light signature with LED optics, which is very reminiscent of the styling of the electric EV9 crossover. The front end is equipped with a narrow radiator grille, sturdy protection, and integrated air intakes on the bumper, creating an impression of increased off-road capability.

The side profile indicates a close kinship with the Carens – the roofline and window openings are practically identical. However, the rear has undergone changes: the LED taillights now stretch across the entire width and have become narrower, and the bumper has received an updated design in Kia’s modern style.

According to sources, the Clavis interior will largely inherit the interior from the Carens with minor trim updates. Options will include ventilated seats, a panoramic roof, ambient lighting, two 10.25-inch screens, and wireless charging. The model will also receive a suite of ADAS systems, as indicated by a collision warning indicator on the digital instrument panel.

Technical specifications have not been disclosed yet, but the Clavis will likely inherit the range of power units from the Carens. It includes 1.5-liter gasoline and diesel engines with a manual or automatic transmission. All versions, as expected, will be front-wheel drive.

A year ago, Kia confirmed the development of a special electric version for India. Its launch is expected in the second half of 2025 with subsequent export to other markets. This could be the electric version of the Clavis, which explains its futuristic design.

Interestingly, the previous Carens model, introduced three years ago, will remain on sale alongside the new one as a more affordable alternative without the latest technological innovations.
