Shelby Prepares a New Mustang Version for Monterey Car Week
Shelby American has announced a new modification of the Mustang, which will debut during Monterey Car Week at the end of the month. The teaser image shows a massive ‘swan neck’ rear wing and widened fenders, indicating the car’s focus on track performance. There is speculation that this could be the return of the GT500 model on the S650 platform.
Previous Shelby models, such as the Super Snake, already offer 830 hp and serious upgrades to the brakes, suspension, and aerodynamics. The new version is likely to go even further. Although details remain unknown, the image hints that the car was tested on the track, and its design is clearly oriented towards maximum downforce and stability.
Technical Features
In addition to the impressive rear wing, the new model will receive significantly widened wheel arches, allowing for wider tires. Under the hood, there could be either a modified version of the 5.0-liter Coyote V8 engine or the more powerful supercharged 5.2-liter Predator V8 from the previous GT500. Shelby has already confirmed that the model will be offered with a manual transmission, and likely also with a 10-speed automatic.
This Mustang will undoubtedly become one of the most extreme versions in the lineup, second only to the GT3-oriented GTD. The presentation is expected to take place on August 24th, so all details will be revealed soon. Fans of the brand hope that Shelby will not limit itself to standard solutions and will present something truly unique.
