New Porsche 975 RSE Lighter Than Mazda MX-5 and More Powerful Than Bugatti in Attack Mode

A New Generation of Formula E Cars

The future 2026/2027 season of the Formula E championship will debut with fourth-generation cars. Porsche was one of the last manufacturers to present its new car for the series. It is named the 975 RSE and its appearance resembles a concept car from the movie “Tron” more than a real racing car. The new car generates significantly more downforce than previous models, which is expected to substantially reduce lap times.

The technical specifications of the new cars are impressive:

Technological Innovations

In addition to power, a key feature of the new generation is the regenerative braking system, capable of recovering up to 700 kW of energy thanks to generators on both axles. The cars also support ultra-fast charging with power up to 600 kW. However, the most attention is drawn to the design of the GEN4 cars, which is radically different from anything fans of the electric racing series have seen before.

The Design of the Future

The front of the car has been completely redesigned. It features a new nose cone with a complex multi-level splitter and a complex of aerodynamic elements in front of the front wheels. The aerodynamics have also been revised along the sides of the car, and a flat wing is installed at the rear. It is important to note that the livery shown in the photo is a test one, and at the start of the season the car will look somewhat different.

The 975 RSE and its competitors are a huge step forward for the sport. I’m a big fan of how aggressively you can now drive. Especially in qualifying, when everyone is pushing to the limit, it should be spectacular – mainly due to the powerful acceleration out of corners.

Porsche’s Position in the Championship

By the middle of the current 2025/2026 season, the Porsche team is leading both the drivers’ and constructors’ standings. The German brand plans to build on this success in the next season. Porsche also won the constructors’ cup in the 2024-2025 season, and the current championship leader Pascal brought the brand the drivers’ championship title in 2023-2024. According to Porsche factory driver Nico Müller, he is glad to have been involved in the simulator work from the very beginning, as it allowed the car to be precisely tuned to the drivers’ needs.

The transition to GEN4 marks a new era in electric racing, where technologies that seemed futuristic just yesterday are becoming track reality. The increase in power, regeneration efficiency, and radical design will not only make the competitions more spectacular but will also become a powerful impetus for the development of civilian electric vehicles, as it is in racing series that the most advanced solutions are usually tested.
