Geely Unveils Powerful Galaxy Cruiser 700 SUV
Geely has unveiled a new SUV, the Galaxy Cruiser 700, which resembles the Land Rover Defender in appearance but boasts significantly more power. This vehicle is part of a new wave of Chinese SUVs that impress with their capabilities.
Under the hood, the Geely Galaxy Cruiser 700 is equipped with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine working in tandem with one electric motor at the front and two at the rear. This three-motor system combined with the engine delivers an incredible 1,113 horsepower. For comparison, the most powerful 2027 Defender Octa has only 533 hp, meaning the Geely has more than double the power. This is hypercar level performance in a body that resembles a box.
Hybrid System and Range
The Galaxy Cruiser 700 is a plug-in hybrid but boasts an impressive all-electric range of up to 217 miles (350 km). This is made possible by a large 70 kWh Golden Short Blade battery developed by Geely, which operates on a 900-volt electrical architecture. Charging speeds are not yet known but are expected to be high.
Off-Road Technologies
Incredible power is only part of what makes the Geely impressive. The vehicle is equipped with an intelligent all-wheel-drive system featuring artificial intelligence, offering front-wheel, rear-wheel, and all-wheel drive modes. It also features active torque vectoring, crab walk capability, and the ability to perform tank turns.
Design and Interior
The model’s design undoubtedly draws associations with the Land Rover Defender and Toyota Land Cruiser, but overall it successfully combines ruggedness with elegance. Key front elements include a backlit Geely logo, bright red tow hooks, and a darkened bumper.
The Galaxy Cruiser 700 also features black wheel arches and side skirts, a roof-mounted lidar, and a rear spare tire carrier located between the LED taillights.
The vehicle’s interior also has much to offer. Like most new cars, it features a tablet-like infotainment screen on the dashboard, but the main highlights are a massive gear selector mechanism, knurled metal dials for various modes, and numerous switches on the console.
Overall, the Geely Galaxy Cruiser 700 is a striking example of how Chinese automakers combine aggressive design, extraordinary power, and modern technologies to compete with traditional market players. Its launch signals that the segment of powerful SUVs is becoming increasingly crowded, and innovations like crab walk and tank turns are becoming less rare. It also demonstrates that electric vehicle technologies make it possible to achieve incredible performance figures even in such massive vehicles, which could change perceptions of SUV capabilities in the future.
