New Special Edition Jeep Offers What No Other Mid-Size Pickup Has

Jeep has introduced a new special edition pickup — the 2026 model year Gladiator Shadow Ops. This model is based on the Rubicon version and has a number of distinctive features.

Factory Winch and Capabilities

The main novelty of the Gladiator Shadow Ops is the presence of a Warn winch, which is installed directly at the factory. This makes Jeep the first manufacturer to offer such an option for a mid-size pickup. The specific winch specifications are not disclosed, but it is likely the same model offered as an extra-cost option for the Wrangler Rubicon. It has a capacity of about 8,000 pounds (3,629 kg), which, according to the brand, provides “unsurpassed pulling capabilities.”

Exterior and Design

The model’s design is executed in dark tones. The vehicle received a matte black radiator grille, as well as black graphic decals on the hood, fenders, and tailgate. These are complemented by practical steel bumpers, also painted black.

This is not a regular “black” version. On the contrary, the Shadow Ops has body-color painted fenders and a three-section hardtop of the same color.

Thus, the design combines darkened accents with key elements that emphasize the body color. Standard equipment also includes all-weather floor mats.

Price and Availability

The new special edition will go on sale in February. Its additional cost will be $4,995 USD. However, Jeep notes that compared to a similarly equipped Rubicon version with body-color fenders and roof, the premium will be only $2,605. This difference can be considered advantageous, given the presence of an expensive factory winch and other exclusive elements. The model is also planned to be offered on the Canadian market early next year, but local prices have not yet been announced.

Future Plans

The introduction of the Gladiator Shadow Ops is just the beginning. The manufacturer announced that this is “Delivery No. 1,” and other “special editions, mission-ready” are already in the works. The company promises that they will embody “strength, unity, and purpose,” which may indicate a continuation of the line of off-road vehicles with enhanced performance and unique design.

The appearance of a factory winch on a mid-size pickup is a noticeable step for a market often associated with aftermarket modifications. This not only raises the level of standard equipment for enthusiasts but also legitimizes such equipment from a warranty perspective. Regarding design, Jeep continues to balance between an aggressive, utilitarian image and more refined, colorful accents, trying to appeal to different buyer groups. The conditional affordability of the Shadow Ops package, especially compared to ordering similar options separately, makes it an interesting proposition in the brand’s ever-expanding lineup.
