New Lotus Emira Fails to Find a Buyer at Auction
Despite the Lotus Emira only recently going on sale in the USA, the first signs indicate a lack of significant demand for this sports model. At an online auction, a car with a mere 305 miles on the odometer failed to find a buyer – the maximum bid was $79,500, which did not meet the reserve price.
This particular Emira V6 First Edition had a suggested retail price of $100,330. The car is equipped with a 3.5-liter supercharged V6 engine producing 400 horsepower and an automatic transmission. Despite the minimal mileage and a clean history, even this practically new model did not interest buyers.
Although the Emira is unlikely to become as much of an icon as the Elise or Exige, it is a rather successful sports car.
Competition in the Sports Car Market
For $100,000, one could purchase other powerful cars, for example, a Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray 3LZ. In this context, the Emira, despite its Lotus brand, appears to be a less attractive option for buyers.
On the other hand, the Emira’s design remains one of its main trump cards – compact proportions, aggressive lines, and the bright Seneca Blue Metallic paint make it a real head-turner on the road. Prices for this model are expected to continue falling, which could make it an interesting option on the used market for sports car enthusiasts.
All things considered, the Emira could become a good choice for those looking for an unusual car for weekends or track days but are not willing to overpay for a new model. Falling prices may make it more accessible in the very near future.
