The New 2027 Subaru Forester Becomes 25% More Fuel Efficient

Subaru Introduces Hybrid Version of Forester Wilderness SUV

At the New York Auto Show, Subaru unveiled the updated Forester Wilderness, which for the first time received a hybrid powertrain. The new model proves that environmental friendliness and efficiency can be combined with uncompromising off-road capabilities.

The main innovation was the hybrid powertrain based on a 2.5-liter boxer engine working in tandem with an electric motor. The total system power is 194 horsepower, which is 14 hp more than the standard gasoline Forester Wilderness.

Efficiency Without Sacrificing Capability

Subaru engineers managed to significantly improve fuel economy without sacrificing the vehicle’s off-road qualities. It is stated that fuel consumption has decreased by 25% compared to the previous version, which consumed an average of 28 liters in the city and 24 on the highway.

This is the first time Subaru has given its most off-road-oriented Forester a hybrid setup.

At the same time, the model retained all the key characteristics for off-asphalt travel: all-wheel drive, 236 mm ground clearance, specially tuned suspension, and off-road tires. The approach and departure angles also remained high, making trail travel less stressful.

Practical Interior and Preserved Cargo Space

The car’s interior is equipped with modern technologies, including a central 11.6-inch screen and a 12.3-inch diagonal digital instrument panel. Particular attention was paid to practicality: durable, moisture-resistant materials that are easy to clean from dirt and moisture were used.

One of the important advantages of the new hybrid system is that it does not take up useful space. The volume of the luggage compartment remained unchanged at 779 liters, and with the rear seats folded down, it increases to 1954 liters.

Expectations and Prospects

Deliveries of the Forester Wilderness Hybrid to the market will begin at the end of 2026. The company has not yet announced the official price, but analysts suggest that the hybrid version will cost approximately $3,000 more than the standard model, whose base price today is $38,385.

The appearance of the hybrid version of the Forester Wilderness reflects the general trend of automakers to combine environmental technologies with traditional SUV values. This shows that the future of vehicles for active recreation is not necessarily tied exclusively to electric vehicles, but can include hybrid solutions that preserve all the advantages of conventional internal combustion engines. Subaru continues to position itself as a brand for those who value freedom of movement and a responsible attitude towards the environment simultaneously.
