Announcement of the New Volvo EX60 Electric Vehicle
Volvo has announced that the fully electric EX60 SUV will debut on January 21, 2026, in Sweden. This model will become the electric alternative to the popular XC60, which is the brand’s best-selling car with over 2.7 million units sold.
Update as of 3/9: Volvo has published a new teaser of the upcoming EX60 and confirmed the official debut date.
Design and Platform
The EX60 will expand Volvo’s electric model range, joining the EX30, EX40, C40, EX90, and the ES90 sedan. The model’s design includes signature lighting elements, such as block-shaped rear LED taillights and front Thor’s Hammer headlights, similar to the EX90. The car’s dimensions will be similar to the XC60.
This is the first Volvo model on the scalable SPA3 architecture, an updated version of the SPA2 platform. The manufacturer describes the EX60 as a “fully software-defined car, capable of evolving over time.”

Technical Specifications
The EX60 is expected to be available in single- and dual-motor versions. Its range will exceed 435 miles (700 km) according to the WLTP standard, thanks to a 106 kWh battery. For comparison, the Tesla Model Y Long Range AWD has a range of 364 miles (586 km) under WLTP.
The model will also feature new multi-adaptive safety belts that use sensors to determine passenger parameters and adjust the restraining force in the event of a crash.
Production and Future
The EX60 debut will take place in Stockholm and will be streamed online. Production will begin at the Torslanda plant in Gothenburg in the first half of 2026. Volvo hopes this model will become a key part of its electric lineup, helping the brand transition fully to electric vehicles. The current XC60 will continue production, including at the plant in South Carolina from late 2026, to avoid import tariffs in the US market.
Volvo’s electrification continues to gain momentum, and the EX60 is likely to be an important step in this process, combining long range with advanced safety technologies. This could make it a serious competitor for other premium electric crossovers, such as those from Tesla and Audi.
