Impressive Demand for the New BMW iX3
Just six months after the presentation of the second generation of the BMW iX3 electric crossover, the model is demonstrating exceptionally high demand. The German automaker has already announced the introduction of a second shift at the plant in Debrecen (Hungary), where the car is currently produced.
During the latest financial results report, BMW CEO Oliver Zipse noted that iX3 production at the Hungarian plant is ramping up, and deliveries to Europe have just begun. He revealed that “orders for the iX3 are filled and stretch until the end of this year,” emphasizing that the model is popular among private clients and corporate fleets.
Zipse went on to reveal that more than 50,000 orders have been placed for the new iX3, a very impressive figure for what is the first in a new generation of EVs from BMW.
Capacities and Future Versions
At full capacity, the Debrecen plant will be able to produce up to 150,000 cars per year. It is impressive that such demand has formed around only one currently available version. This model, designated the iX3 50 xDrive, is equipped with a 108 kWh battery and two electric motors with a combined output of 463 hp and a torque of 645 Nm. It offers a class-leading range of up to 805 kilometers and supports fast charging at up to 400 kW.
The iX3 family is expected to expand over time. The 50 xDrive version will occupy the middle position in the lineup. Below it will be the 40 and 40 xDrive variants, which will likely receive a smaller battery and be cheaper. At the top of the range should be the M60 model, whose potential power could exceed 600 hp. According to reports, by the end of 2027, a full-fledged M version with an output of over 800 hp may join it.
Globalization of Production
BMW iX3 production will not be limited to Hungary. The company also plans to establish production of this electric car in China and Mexico. This decision is intended to ensure sufficient production volume to meet global demand for this vehicle.
The success of the iX3 is an important signal for BMW, which is betting on a new generation of electric models. The number of orders received in six months confirms the correctness of the chosen design and technical path. Expanding production to three continents will not only reduce logistics costs for key markets but also make the model more accessible. Expanding the lineup with variants of different power and price will allow BMW to reach a wider range of buyers, intensifying competition in the electric crossover segment.
