Buick Introduces Updated Electric Model for the Chinese Market
Buick has introduced an updated version of the Electra E5 electric crossover, intended for the Chinese market. The car received over 47 updates in design, technology, and comfort. Among the key changes are a new front-end design with simplified lines and chrome accents. The range on a single charge exceeds 373 miles (600 km), and the most powerful version accelerates from 0 to 62 mph in 6.4 seconds.
Interestingly, Buick still does not offer any electric vehicles in the USA, although it initially planned to launch the Electra E5 in 2024. The delay is due to changes in General Motors’ market strategy, as well as high tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles in the USA. Currently, the model is only available in China, where its price starts at approximately $23,700.
“Buick did not specify all the details of the update but noted that the crossover received significant improvements in all key aspects.”
The dimensions of the Electra E5 remain unchanged: length — 4,892 mm, width — 1,905 mm, height — 1,684 mm, and wheelbase — 2,954 mm. It is expected that the updated model will retain the availability of various battery and drive options, as in the previous version.
Buick continues to develop its electric direction, but so far its offering is limited to specific markets. Meanwhile, GM is actively working on expanding its lineup of electric vehicles under other brands, such as Cadillac and Chevrolet. Perhaps, in time, the Electra E5 will appear in other regions if trade conditions and demand change.
