Amazing Accident: SUV Crashes into Restaurant
Pedestrians and drivers in White Plains experienced a terrifying moment when an Acura MDX SUV, speeding at high velocity, raced through an intersection, launched into the air, and crashed directly into the building of a Buffalo Wild Wings restaurant. This incredible incident occurred on Monday afternoon near the intersection of Main Street and Mamaroneck Avenue.
White Plains Police released a video recording that clearly shows the entire sequence of events. The silver MDX approaches the intersection at high speed, not slowing down. The vehicle drives straight through the intersection, hits a curb, and this impact sends the SUV into an airborne flight, completely lifting it off the road.
After flying across the road, the Acura struck a section of scaffolding near the Buffalo Wild Wings restaurant.
On the Brink of Tragedy: Driver and Pedestrians
According to reports, an 80-year-old man was behind the wheel of the vehicle. Most amazingly, at least five pedestrians who were standing near that intersection found themselves mere centimeters away from the flying car and avoided collision or serious injury. Furthermore, the MDX somehow avoided colliding with a white Audi Q7 and a white Toyota Prius taxi, which were just approaching the intersection.
Emergency services arrived at the scene very quickly; however, removing the wrecked SUV proved to be a significantly more difficult task. The Acura remained stuck near the building for several hours as rescue workers operated, wary of the damaged structure and debris.
Complex Rescue Operations and Investigation
It took crews nearly four hours to finally extract the car. The elderly driver was taken to the hospital, where his condition was assessed as stable. A representative from the driver assistance service noted that the scaffolding significantly complicated the work, as it was important to ensure that nothing would collapse.
