The budget sedan Fiat Linea was created for developing countries. Therefore, it is not available for purchase in Germany, for example, and even in its home country, Italy, but the car is sold in Turkey, India, Ukraine, and many other countries. Fiat Linea is a long-liver in the automotive market, the model debuted in 2007, and in 2012 Linea was updated. During the restyling, the appearance changed, but most importantly, the interior was radically redesigned. The cabin is now much more modern, richer and its details resemble the stylish Fiat 500 and Panda.
The choice of engine for the Fiat Linea buyer is very simple – turbo diesel or gasoline. With a volume of 1.4 liters, the gasoline naturally aspirated engine produces 77 hp and 115 Nm. The figures of the 1.3-liter turbo diesel are much more attractive – 95 hp and 200 Nm. Naturally, the diesel version is more dynamic, accelerating to 100 km/h in 13.8 s, compared to 14.6 s for the gasoline car. Both engines are without alternative aggregated with a 5-speed “manual”.
Since Fiat Linea was created for developing countries where there may be nuances with roads, the car’s chassis was made very soft and energy-intensive. It quietly and comfortably tackles various irregularities, resisting maximum shock. The downside in this case is the large body roll in corners, driving this car fast is not very pleasant.
The list of safety systems in Fiat Linea is scarce. There are only a couple of front airbags, and side airbags are not even on the list of options.
The only active safety system is ABS. There is no and never was stability control in Linea. The car also didn’t undergo EuroNCAP crash tests. However, after the update, the vehicle received Isofix child seat mounting system. Fiat Linea, although a budget car, is well-equipped.
Even in the base version, there is a music system, air conditioning, electric drives for all windows, central locking with remote control, and much more. In maximum configuration, there is climate control. Note that in our market Fiat Linea is sold in one of three configurations, but if a car with a turbo diesel can be bought in any of them, then the gasoline one is available only in the base version.
The Fiat Linea with a turbo diesel engine turned out to be more powerful, more torquey, and more dynamic, but for many, the most important factor is economy. In this regard, the diesel Linea is also more preferable.
Its fuel consumption in the city is only 6.5 liters per 100 km, whereas the gasoline engine in similar conditions consumes 8.3 liters per “hundred”.
Fiat Linea is a pioneer among budget sedans built for developing countries. It doesn’t reach for the stars, but it offers its owner a balanced set of advantages. This includes a comfortable suspension, spacious trunk, and economical engine. Doubting if Linea suits you?
