In April, Renault announced a shocking price for its electric R5 Turbo 3E – 155,000 euros, which exceeds the cost of a new Porsche 911 GTS. Although many were skeptical of such a price, demand for the car turned out to be unexpectedly high.
During the annual shareholders’ meeting, the company reported that in the first week after sales started, 850 orders were received for the planned production run of 1,980 units. It is noteworthy that the reservation process for this model is significantly more complex than a usual visit to a car dealership.
Significant Deposit for a Premium Car
To reserve the R5 Turbo 3E, potential buyers must make a non-refundable deposit of 45,000 euros. Thus, Renault has already received about 38.25 million euros in advance payments. These funds will be used to complete the development of the electric vehicle.
Just a few days after pre-orders opened, company executive Fabrice Cambolive reported that 500 applications had been received from customers and another 200 from dealers. This indicates significant interest in the premium version of Renault.
Powerful Technical Specifications
The car is built on a carbon monocoque with two in-wheel motors that together produce 540 horsepower. Energy is provided by a 70 kWh battery on an 800-volt architecture, providing a range of over 400 km. Fast charging allows the battery to be replenished from 15% to 80% in just 15 minutes.
