The owner of a rare 1963 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadster has set a price guide of €1.7 million for its sale at an auction in Monaco. This is one of only 91 cars produced in 1963, belonging to the final series of the model. This is reported by RM Sotheby’s.

The model is equipped with a 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine producing 215 hp. The car has retained its original power unit, body, and rear axle with matching numbers. It also features an aluminum engine block and disc brakes on all wheels.

The car’s estimate was €1.5–1.7 million, which is equivalent to approximately 64–73 million UAH or 1.6–1.8 million dollars. This level is explained by the rare specification and belonging to the late examples — a total of 1,858 roadsters were produced, but only 210 of them belong to the final batch.

This example has retained its factory color combination: White Grey body and black leather interior. The equipment includes a hardtop, jack, tool kit, and spare wheel.

Rare Roadster History and Technical Features

The car has a documented history. From 1975 to 1989, it was in a private collection in the USA, after which it underwent restoration. From 1990, for 25 years, it belonged to collector John Shirley.

In 2014, the car was returned to its factory colors, and in 2018, it was exported to Germany. There it was serviced at the specialized workshop HK Engineering. In 2024, the timing chain was replaced and the rear axle was restored.

Due to production peculiarities, some late 300 SLs in the 1960s received new engines under warranty, so today only about 100 examples have retained their original aluminum block. The presented Roadster belongs to this limited group.
