Honda Insight Approaches a Million Miles
Daisy Ryou from Pennsylvania has an unusual dream – to reach a million miles in her 2002 Honda Insight. The odometer currently reads 985,000 miles, with only 15,000 left to go. This hybrid car has come a long way: over 22 years, it has had three owners, undergone several major repairs, but continues to drive.
Daisy shared a photo of her car on Facebook, and the post went viral. Many were impressed that the original 1.0-liter engine is still running, despite the car needing a transmission replacement, battery, and other parts. The body and interior look surprisingly good for such mileage.
Problems and Prospects
The car has its drawbacks: the engine consumes a lot of oil, and the exhaust fumes are too smoky. Daisy even left a note on the bumper so other drivers wouldn’t pay attention to it. However, she hopes that the Honda Insight will indeed reach a million miles and that the manufacturer might acknowledge this record.
The first-generation Honda Insight was one of the pioneers of hybrid cars, offering high efficiency – up to 70 miles per gallon. Its aerodynamic design and aluminum body made it unique for its time. Now, this model has become an example of reliability and durability, proving that even hybrids can cover incredible distances.
This story is a reminder that cars can become true companions for decades. Even with technical problems, they continue to serve their owners, especially when the latter treat them with care and an interest in their fate.
