The Teams Vote for the Orphan has practically become a national chronicle. And in the automotive world, there is an orphan, although it has not yet achieved the status of a fairytale Cinderella. It’s a special car with a few pleasant features. First and foremost, it is one of the few cars in its segment, it’s the only rear-wheel drive car in the Subaru lineup, not to mention that it’s the only two-door car in their lineup. However, just being rare doesn’t make it a winner.
What truly matters is its behavior on the road and, more importantly, how you feel behind the wheel and the emotions it evokes. So, can a car with just 228 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque make you fall in love with driving? After a week of testing the car on winding roads, in the city, and on the highway, we assert… yes. In fact, it could be the perfect car for young drivers just learning the ropes.
However, this doesn’t preclude it from being a wonderful option for drivers of any age in the right environment. Our test car is the BRZ tS. Consider it the top choice among the BRZ with a total price, including delivery, of $36,465. Yes, it’s expensive for a child’s first car, but most of the advantages remain relevant even for budget versions. They all have the same engine and power, the same rear-wheel drive, and are available with either a six-speed manual or automatic transmission.
Our BRZ tS should burn up to 20 miles per gallon in the city, 27 on the highway, and 22 on average, and it also has a few pleasant additions from Subaru’s performance division. For example, larger Brembo brakes on the front axle, 18-inch dark gray wheels, and a redesigned suspension with Hitachi dampers. This is just a teaser for the news about the Subaru BRZ tS. Driving this car can make every trip exciting and thrilling, especially for young drivers.
