BMW Neue Klasse updates will be more profound than a regular facelift

A new era of BMW is on the horizon

After many years of waiting, the BMW Neue Klasse era is finally approaching. The first model to appear will be the second generation iX3, and soon it will be joined by the new i3 – a fully electric version of the 3 Series. Neue Klasse brings not only a new design language but also advanced technologies that will be implemented in the rest of the BMW family.

Release and update plans

BMW has confirmed that by the end of 2027, it will launch over 40 new or updated cars. They will include the same computing systems as the iX3, and many of them will also receive the new Panoramic iDrive system. According to the manufacturer, iX3 technologies represent a “quantum leap”.

Words from the Neue Klasse leader

Every technology, everything in the iX3 is completely new. We will implement this technology across the entire portfolio, and quickly. We have never done this before, but it is necessary, considering things like computing power and user interface. There have been so many big leaps.

The quantum leaps in Neue Klasse technologies are so great that if we don’t integrate them into the current portfolio, it will feel outdated. Thanks to Neue Klasse, we have made so much progress, as if we skipped an entire generation of models, so we must do this across the entire range.

BMW's Neue Klasse Facelifts Will Be More Than Skin-Deep

Not ordinary updates

One of the biggest changes will be the future updated BMW models. Usually, technological updates in facelifted models are relatively minor, with an emphasis on improving aesthetics. However, it has been confirmed that the next generation of updated models will be much more complex than a traditional facelift.

Traditionally, we had one update in the middle of the product life cycle lasting seven to nine years, mostly design-oriented, but with minor digital changes. Today we update the digital part every year, so it is very important to integrate this into the car. We will not change the body structure of existing models, but we integrate the most important aspects of Neue Klasse: design language, Panoramic iDrive, ADAS and all digital functions.

These changes indicate that BMW takes digital transformation and adaptation to modern market demands seriously. Integrating advanced technologies into all models, regardless of their update cycle, can significantly increase the brand’s competitiveness. In addition, regular software updates will allow customers to stay on the wave of technological innovations without having to buy a new car. This may also affect long-term customer loyalty, as they will feel that their cars remain modern throughout the entire period of operation.
