The facelifted Mercedes C-Class has been spied inside and out. Exterior gets a starry makeover, while the cabin gets minor tweaks. C43 is set to be replaced by a C53 with a turbo-six developing 443 hp.
Expected Premiere of the Updated Sedan
The updated Mercedes-Benz C-Class is rumored to debut this summer. Recent spy photos have managed to capture a prototype of the car up close, including its interior.
Exterior in the Spirit of the “Starry” Theme
Photographed during a break in cold-weather testing, the updated sedan does not look too revolutionary, but it is fully dedicated to “star power.” The model has received front and rear lights integrated with stars. A new radiator grille and different styling for the air intakes, which are also likely to be executed in this theme, can also be expected.
The radiator grille may become larger than that of its predecessor. This remains to be seen, but the updated S-Class, GLE, and GLS families have already received “super-sized” noses.
Exterior Details and New Mirrors
Additional changes are few, but updated side mirrors with new C-shaped LED elements can be noticed. It also wouldn’t be surprising if the model receives a new wheel design.
Interior Updates and Multimedia System
Unlike the GLE and GLS, which received the new MBUX Superscreen, the C-Class appears to retain the familiar 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and 11.9-inch multimedia system. However, the latter will most likely run on the new Mercedes-Benz Operating System and receive a personal AI assistant.
Besides the displays, an updated steering wheel with redesigned controls is visible. The facelift may also bring some changes to interior trim and upholstery.
Latest Driver Assistance System
More importantly, the sedan will likely receive the new MB.Drive Assist Pro system. This is an enhanced Level 2+ semi-autonomous driving system that debuted on the CLA and allows for hands-free navigation in cities.
Expected Powertrains
Under the hood, a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine producing 255 hp and 400 Nm of torque is expected. Additional options will be available in other markets, including a range of diesel engines for Europe.
More interestingly, the C43 model is expected to give way to a new C53 variant with a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six engine producing 443 hp and 600 Nm of torque. This will be a significant improvement over the current turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, which delivers 416 hp and 500 Nm of torque.
The Mercedes C-Class update demonstrates a gradual but important evolution of the model. The emphasis on the “starry” theme in the lighting and grille design continues the brand’s signature style, making the car more modern without radical changes. The most significant updates seem to be happening under the hood, especially with the introduction of a more powerful six-cylinder engine in the C53 version, which could significantly boost its competitiveness in its segment. Interior changes, such as the updated operating system and enhanced driver assistance systems, align with the brand’s overall trend towards increased digital integration and comfort levels. This facelift appears to be a balanced strategy aimed at refreshing a key model in the lineup while preserving its core strengths.
