Toyota Model Lineup Update May Bring an Unexpected Sedan and an Electric Highlander

Toyota Model Lineup Update in North America

Toyota is preparing major updates for its car lineup in North America by 2028. Among the key changes is a fully electric version of the Highlander, which may appear as early as 2026. The company also plans to expand its range of electric SUVs by including a model with three rows of seats, similar in size to the Grand Highlander.

Despite the general trend of reducing sedan production, Toyota continues to develop this segment. Updates for the Corolla and Camry are expected no earlier than 2028, and a new generation of the Corolla will appear within the next few years. Furthermore, in 2027, a fully electric sedan may debut, complementing the brand’s lineup.

SUVs, Pickups, and Sports Models

In the SUV segment, Toyota is preparing updates for the 4Runner and Land Cruiser in 2028. As for pickups, the Tundra will receive a serious facelift in 2027, and the Tacoma in 2027. The possibility of a compact pickup appearing to compete with the Ford Maverick is also being discussed.

Fans of sports models can expect updates to the Gazoo Racing lineup, including possible new versions of the GR 86 and GR Supra.

The Sienna minivan is also expecting an update in 2027, but it is still unclear whether a version with an increased range, already confirmed for the Chinese market, will appear in the USA. Overall, Toyota is demonstrating a versatile approach, combining traditional technologies with innovative electric solutions.

Recent years have shown that demand for electric vehicles is growing, but at the same time, interest in hybrids and traditional engines remains stable. Toyota, with experience in both directions, is trying to meet the needs of different buyer groups, which could become its advantage in a changing market. This is especially true for sedans, which are losing popularity among many competitors but remain an important part of Toyota’s model range.
