Updated VW Lamando L: Chinese equivalent of Jetta CC

The updated VW Lamando L features a sharper front end and updated headlights.

The compact sedan VW Lamando L, available only in China, has a coupe profile and is a sister model to the Jetta.

It has been three years since the debut of the VW Lamando L as a sleek, lower-slung body brother of the Sagitar, which, for those unfamiliar, is the local version of the Jetta. Now, the first photos and details of its updated version have emerged. The compact sedan still has a similar profile to the larger Arteon, which replaced the Passat CC in international markets. Sadly, for the rest of the world, the Lamando L is exclusively a Chinese offering.

Updates to the front end are minor but noticeable. The original’s sleek soft grille has been replaced with a larger, bolder design, mainly consisting of glossy black plastic and a few silver accents. The illuminated VW emblem is still in place, along with the characteristic LED light strip, but the updated Lamando L has new, sharper headlights that are noticeably smaller than before.

The side profile remains largely unchanged, but the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China has reported that the car now offers new wheel options in 16 and 17 inches, for those who want to slightly modify the aesthetics.

The rear updates become a bit more noticeable. The car now features a light strip, redesigned reverse lights, and a different bumper with a lower black plastic section.

The updated Lamando L has a length of 4,791 mm (188.6 inches), a width of 1,831 mm (72 inches), and a height of 1,469 mm (57.8 inches), meaning it is exactly the same in width and height as the old model, but 7 mm (0.27 inches) longer. The wheelbase remains unchanged at 2,731 mm (107.5 inches).

More power under the hood (in a sense)

Under the hood, the Lamando L has received a slight power boost. The only engine option is a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder that delivers 158 hp (118 kW), which is 10 horsepower more than the previous model. This engine is paired with VW’s seven-speed DSG automatic transmission, which channels power to the front wheels.

We will have to wait a bit to take a look inside the cabin, which might be revised for the 2025 model year. The currently available Lamando L’s interior resembles other VW products, with a 10-inch digital instrument panel and a 12-inch infotainment display. Other key features include a head-up display, Beats audio system, ambient lighting, and a sunroof.
