Updated Dodge Charger with a More Powerful Engine to Launch in August, But Still Without Hemi

Dodge Prepares a New Powerful Charger: Premiere in August

Dodge has confirmed plans to expand the Charger Sixpack lineup. The new version will debut in August this year and will have over 550 horsepower. The manufacturer also announced the celebration of the Charger model’s 60th anniversary, which will be accompanied by a series of events.

We knew Dodge was preparing something special for Roadkill Nights, but unfortunately, it won’t be the Charger SRT Hellcat with a V8 engine. However, this is a new performance version.

Although the brand is keeping details under wraps, they have confirmed plans to “introduce the most powerful Charger with a Sixpack engine.” This means the mysterious model will get a 3.0-liter inline-six Hurricane engine with twin turbocharging instead of a supercharged 6.2-liter V8.

More on this: Dodge raised prices on the 2027 Charger Daytona by five figures, effectively begging buyers to abandon the electric vehicle.

This will likely disappoint fans who were eagerly awaiting the return of the Hemi engine, but the new model will outperform the Charger Scat Pack. The latter has 550 hp (410 kW / 558 hp) and 531 lb-ft (719 Nm) of torque, allowing it to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph (0-96 km/h) in 3.9 seconds and cover a quarter mile in 12.2 seconds.

Dodge previously stated that there would be “new product announcements” at the August event, so it is possible the automaker has something else in store.

Tour for the Charger’s 60th Anniversary

In addition to the teaser for the new performance version, Dodge is celebrating the Charger’s 60th anniversary with a summer tour. It kicks off today at the Carlisle Chrysler Nationals and will continue on July 12 at the Route 66 100th Anniversary Parade in Santa Monica.

All eight generations of the Charger will appear at the All-American Cruise-In event at the Petersen Automotive Museum on July 26, after which the focus will shift to Michigan. Roadkill Nights will take place on August 8, followed by the Woodward Dream Cruise on August 15. The tour will conclude at the Dodge NHRA Great Lakes Nationals, presented by Mopar, in mid-September.

Dodge CEO Matt McAlear noted:

Since its debut in 1966, the Dodge Charger has been a symbol of bold design, uncompromising performance, and unmistakable American attitude. Celebrating 60 years, we are bringing this legacy to life across the country and uniting generations of enthusiasts.

Thus, Dodge continues to develop the Charger lineup, focusing on powerful six-cylinder engines rather than traditional V8s. This decision may be linked to global trends toward reducing emissions and increasing efficiency, but it also indicates that the company is seeking new ways to preserve the model’s sporting spirit. The celebration of the Charger’s 60th anniversary underscores the importance of this model for American automotive culture, and the new powerful variant is expected to attract the attention of both longtime fans and new buyers who value modern technology and high performance.
